Talented fashion designer Rodrick Burke will showcase his latest creations on July 25, 2008 at the annual DymeWear All White Party Fashion Show at the historic Starlight Room in downtown Dallas. Centered on a Salsa theme, this show is unlike any other. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for an exciting evening of salsa dancing highlighted with the exceptional street and urban styles of DymeWear. Last year's fashion show had approximately 1700 people. The event was ranked one of the biggest of 2007.

DymeWear was founded by President and CEO Rodrick Burke of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. After college, the army and working as a network engineer, Rodrick met with his future partner Marcel Yenez. The quest for both entrepreneurs was to define the “perfect ten” known in the hip hop culture as a “Dyme”. It was from this meeting that DymeWear was born. The company was officially incorporated on May 5, 2005.

Since then, DymeWear has gained the respect and popularity of women from all races and backgrounds. DymeWear has been recognized in the UK, Australia, Canada, South America and USA. DymeWear has grown from a denim collection, focused on being “the only jeans that make a girl feel like a perfect dyme,” to include a variety of clothing styles such as mini skirts, shorts, capris and an array of tops that are flexible to offer the customer a variety of choices.

In addition to the current clothing line, expect to see additions not limited to accessories like Black Pearls, swimwear, handbags and shoes. DymeWear serves all purposes, such as comfortably being fashionable during the day but yet … go about town styling at nights.

DymeWear is the perfect description for the bold, fun and the sexy attitude of the DymeWear woman. Whether evidenced by the glimmer in the rhinestones on a pair of jeans, or in the darting glance of the classy feminine silhouette logo of the company, these are clothes for the woman who definitely sees the world on her own terms.

DymeWear delivers a universal message that breaks stereotypes and ethnic boundaries — setting the new standard in women's fashion — and establishes the company as the complete American lifestyle brand being as exquisite as Juste Moi. A Kettle That Won't Blow Hot Steam on Your Electric Bill

The Capresso H2O Plus Water Kettle is a fast and convenient way to brew hot water for tea and other beverages, but a new independent study shows another advantage: energy savings.

The energy-conscious Capresso H2O Plus Water Kettle has a concealed heating element under a stainless steel dome on the base of the kettle, which boils water faster and uses less energy than a stovetop kettle, according to an independent study by Gaynes Labs, Inc.  In fact, water boiled on an electric range used nearly 60 percent more energy than water boiled in the Capresso H2O Plus, and on a gas range the stovetop kettle use over 163 percent more energy.

The kettle’s energy efficiency and contemporary design make it the perfect choice in the kitchen, den, dorm or office. Small and portable, it can be used nearly anywhere you desire to enjoy a relaxing and healthful cup of tea. Featuring a curved glass body and beautiful chrome accents, its aesthetically pleasing, contemporary design fits compliments any décor.

The high-quality Schott glass showcases water when it boils, adding to its visual appeal and making it instantly clear when the water reaches a rolling boil. The kettle automatically shuts off when the water reaches a boil, ensuring the kettle does not boil dry. For added safety and energy savings, the kettle also automatically shuts off when it is removed from the power base.

Easy to operate, the H2O Plus comes with a simple on/off switch and a blue indicator light to show when the kettle is on. Indicator lines from 16 to 48 ounces and two to six cups on the glass kettle make it easy to fill the right amount.

Once the water is boiling, the cordless kettle, designed for right- or left-handed use, can be easily lifted from the 360-degree power base. The oversized curved safety handle ensures maximum comfort and safety when pouring. The large arched polypropylene handle, in black and chrome, has a slip-resistant plastic on its underside to provide a firmer grip.

The power base includes the electric plug, with a cord storage option so the cord does not get in your way.

The Capresso H2O Plus Water Kettle has an actual retail price of .99. It is also available in black with matte silver metallic accents and is sold at specialty retailers including www.amazon.com.

Shaw Wins Wal-Mart FLW Tour Chevy Open on Detroit River

High winds meant rough waters for the anglers competing in the $1.5 million Wal-Mart FLW Tour Chevy Open on the Detroit River, but in the end Team Kellogg's pro Alvin Shaw of State Road, N.C., caught a final-round total of 10 bass weighing 39 pounds, 11 ounces to win $200,000. Shaw topped his closest rival, Team Pringles pro Vic Vatalaro of Kent, Ohio, by only three ounces to earn the win and 200 points toward qualifying for the $2 million Forrest Wood Cup in Columbia, S.C., where the winner will earn as much as $1 million — the biggest award in bass fishing — Aug. 14-17.

“This feels so great I can't even explain it,” said Shaw, who now has won more than $716,000 in FLW Outdoors events. “It feels good to put in a good practice and come out on top. That's just what it boils down to.

“I had to stick with what I was doing, wind or no wind,” Shaw added. “If I could get there, I felt like I could catch fish. The wind actually made me stay on areas longer because it was impossible to run.”

Throughout the competition, Shaw targeted small isolated clumps of grass, rocks and sand in 12 to 16 feet of water on Lake St. Clair. He said instead of employing the time-tested method of dragging a tube that is so popular on the area waters, he elected to cast it with baitcasting equipment and 8-pound-test line. Shaw pulled a green-pumpkin gold flake tube to the top of the grass, held it there and then popped the tube out of the grass. Most of the strikes occurred when he popped the tube free. Shaw said he culled only twice Sunday.

“I knew I had a chance to win after the first day of the tournament,” Shaw said. “I didn't know how good these spots were in practice. You don't go out there and hammer them in practice. You just try to go around and get a feel for what's going on. I thought I could make a top 100 and maybe even a top 50 for a $10,000 check.

“But after the first day I said, 'These fish are talking to me,'” Shaw added. “They're coming to me.”

Shaw opened the tournament Thursday in 10th place with five bass weighing 20-04. He jumped to second place Friday with a five-bass catch weighing 20 pounds, 15 ounces to advance into the final round of 10 pros with a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 41 pounds, 3 ounces. On Saturday, weights were cleared, and Shaw caught five bass weighing 20-14 to advance to the final day of competition in first place. Shaw added another five bass weighing 18-13 to his final-round total Sunday.

Vatalaro caught a final-round total of 10 bass weighing 39-08 to claim second place and $50,000.

“I couldn't do much more than I did, no doubt about it,” Vatalaro said. “I just worked my hardest and didn't lose any fish and I played the cards the only way I could play them.”

Vatalaro was targeting underwater bushes near sandy spots in 18 to 20 feet of water and caught 25 keepers from his spot on Lake St. Clair on a green tube Saturday.

“Yesterday I lost one fish,” Vatalaro said. “What can you do? Out of all of those fish I caught, I lost one good one.”

The $150,000 difference in first and second place meant Vatalaro's shortcoming cost $50,000 an ounce.

“I mean … three ounces,” Vatalaro said. “$150,000 for three ounces. That's amazing.”

Rounding out the top 10 pros were Mark Modrak of China Township, Mich. (10 bass, 31-04, $40,000); Team Chevy pro Kim Stricker of Howell, Mich. (10 bass, 26-04, $35,000); Team BP pro J.T. Kenney of Port Charlotte, Fla. (nine bass, 25-01, $30,000); David Reault of Livonia, Mich. (eight bass, 21-14, $28,000); Team Duracell pro Michael Bennett of Lincoln, Calif. (eight bass, 21-08, $26,000); Keith Monson of Burgin, Ky. (eight bass, 18-11, $24,000); Keith Combs of Del Rio, Texas (six bass, 16-13, $22,000) and David McCrone of Minnetonka, Minn. (two bass, 6-15, $20,000).

Overall there were 40 bass weighing 121 pounds, 1 ounce caught in the Pro Division Sunday. The catch included six five-bass limits.

Tournament pros aren't the only ones winning big this season. With the introduction of FLW Fantasy Fishing(TM), which offers $7.3 million in cash and prizes, FLW Outdoors(R) presents anyone with the opportunity to land the catch of a lifetime. Players in the lucrative new fantasy sports league can become virtual pros by signing up for Player's Advantage, which provides exclusive insider information that could guide them to a $100,000 victory at every Wal-Mart FLW Tour stop and the Forrest Wood Cup. Player's Advantage will give them an edge over the competition and increase their shot for a $1 million cash grand prize that will be awarded to the FLW Fantasy Fishing cumulative points winner. Those who visit FantasyFishing.com today can sign up for Player's Advantage and receive a complimentary $15 Wal-Mart gift card.

On Saturday, Mark Frickman of Grand Ledge, Mich., won the Co-angler Division and $30,000 Saturday with a five-bass limit weighing 19 pounds, 4 ounces followed by Mike Weidman of Burton, Mich., in second place with five bass weighing 17-9 worth $10,000.

Frickman opened the tournament in 53rd place Thursday with five bass weighing 15-01 while fishing with Team Duracell pro Brennan Bosley of Benton, Ark. On Friday he jumped into fifth place on the strength of a five-bass catch weighing 17-10 while fishing with Team Castrol pro Carl Svebek of Siloam Springs, Ark. He wrapped up his win while fishing with Team Pringles pro Vic Vatalaro of Kent, Ohio.

“This is unbelievable,” said Frickman, who won the first FLW Tour event he fished Saturday. “This was my treat for the year — to fish my first FLW Tour event.

“I just can't describe it,” Frickman added. “To start out 53rd on Day 1 and making it to the finals and then winning … don't ever, ever give up. Be positive. Do the right thing.”

Frickman credits the Berkley Gulp! Goby as the key to his championship title. Frickman said he caught between 20 and 25 fish during the course of the day, including about 20 keepers.

“I was throwing 3-pounders back at 8:30 this morning,” Frickman said. “It was just phenomenal.”

Rounding out the top 10 co-anglers are J.B. Young of Deer Park, Texas (five bass, 16-03, $9,000); Jerry Weisinger of Wyandotte, Okla. (three bass, 11-08, $8,000); Andrew Lemle of Perrysburg, Ohio (five bass, 11-07, $7,000); Team National Guard co-angler Diane Delagarza of Garland, Texas (four bass, 10-04, $6,000); Scott Gibson of Biloxi, Miss. (three bass, 6-11, $5,000); Ron Fabiszak of South Bend, Ind. (one bass, 4-02, $4,000); Team Wal-Mart co-angler Hector Delagarza of Garland, Texas (one bass, 2-09, $3,000) and Todd Robbins of Romulus, Mich. (one bass, 1-13, $2,000).

Hector and Diane Delagarza shared the weigh-in stage Saturday as the first husband and wife in FLW Outdoors history to make a top 10 together.

Overall there were 33 bass weighing 101 pounds, 6 ounces caught in the Co-angler Division Saturday. The catch included four five-bass limits.

Coverage of the Chevy Open will be broadcast to 81 million FSN (Fox Sports Net) subscribers in the United States on Aug. 31 and Sept. 7 as part of the “FLW Outdoors” television program. “FLW Outdoors” is also broadcast in Canada on WFN (World Fishing Network) and to more than 429 million households in the United Kingdom, Europe, Russia, Australia, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East through a distribution agreement with Matchroom Sport, making it the most widely distributed fishing program in the world. The program airs Sunday mornings at 11 Eastern time in most markets. Check local listings for times in your area.

FLW Outdoors, named after Forrest L. Wood, the legendary founder of Ranger Boats, is the largest fishing tournament organization in the world. In 2008 alone the organization is offering more than 90,000 anglers the chance to win over $40 million through 230 tournaments in 10 circuits targeting bass, walleye, redfish, kingfish and striped bass. FLW Outdoors is also taking fishing mainstream with the largest cash awards in the history of fantasy sports, $7.3 million.

Are Wine Ratings Irrelevant to the Modern Sommelier?

“But did it get a 95?” Ratings have become ubiquitous in the wine world, to the benefit of consumers who may not have the time, the palates, or the funds to taste through thousands of bottles. But what about restaurant professionals, whose jobs involve doing just that? Are ratings relevant to them, not only on a personal level, but on a professional level, where interactions with ratings-seeking consumers are bound to occur? Sommelier Journal Editorial Advisory Board member Shayn Bjornholm, MS, explores this issue in the July 2008 cover story, “What's in a Score?”

On a personal level, the answer to Bjornholm's query appears to be “not much.” “The first thing I learned about sommeliers is that they trust their own palates,” Sommelier Journal Editor David Vogels, CWP, writes in his column, “For Openers,” in the same issue. “Wine professionals taste thousands of wines a year . . . . Scoring wines is not part of their job description, unless they use some kind of private shorthand as a memory jogger. So the next thing I learned about sommeliers was that they not only trust their own palates, but don't trust other people's scores.”

Bjornholm agrees in his article: “One truth is that more and more sommeliers are spending their time and efforts to train palates by way of certification from various educational bodies. And as they scale the previously unattainable heights occupied by the wine critics, and their growing abilities gain the trust of their patrons, wine points are becoming more and more of a moot point.”

On the professional level, the answer seems to be more complicated. Bjornholm found a mixture of opinions on the pros and cons of wine ratings in the restaurant setting, but most of the sommeliers he surveyed came down against using ratings in their restaurants. “Reducing a wine to a numerical score takes away the subtlety and joy that makes wine interesting in the first place,” said Geoff Kruth, MS, wine director of the Farmhouse Inn and Restaurant in Forestville, Calif.

Others believed that using ratings invalidates their job of building a great list to match the cuisine of the restaurant and of guiding their customers through the list. Michael Meagher, assistant beverage director for the New France restaurant group in Boston, said, “I am there to speak about the qualities of the wine, the background, the varietals–if anything, I often go in the opposite direction of wines with high scores, because those are the wines that are easier on the wallet.” Meagher noted another problem with high-point scorers: many have high-levels of alcohol and more assertive flavor profiles that make food pairing more difficult.

Not everyone was opposed to using ratings. John McCune, director of wine and spirits for the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Mont., felt that ratings provide an opportunity for restaurants. “We live in a point-based society–it works!” McCune said. “Fill your list with wines rated extremely high (most, if not all of which, are great), and you have a formula for success.” Indeed, Bjornholm found that many restaurants around the country actively market wine scores with “100-Point Wine Dinners” and other similar, point-driven wine functions.

Many sommeliers fell between the open embrace of McCune and the flat rejection of Kruth, accepting the notion that scores do matter to some customers. “Scores seem to be very important to the enthusiasts and those with disposable income who enjoy trophy offerings,” said Julia Warren Schiavone, wine director of Quaintance-Weaver Restaurants & Hotels in Greensboro, N.C. “I need to know them to communicate with my guests who place value on that information.”

But Bjornholm found that the number of guests who actually mention scores on their own is quite low, the consensus being that less than 10% of customers ever bring them up. In other words, the original question, “Did it get a 95?”, is asked far less often than, “What would you recommend?”

'The Dark Knight' Has a Local Angle in Chicago

With the theatrical release of Christopher Nolan's “The Dark Knight” breaking records at the box-office, an intrepid group of Chicago filmmakers took to the streets in June to shoot a Batman “fanfilm” that bridges events between 2005's “Batman Begins” and the newly released Warner Brothers blockbuster.

“The Dark Knight Project” chronicles the adventures of Gotham Midtown students Heather Nolan and Mikey Bale, played by Allyssa O'Donnell and David Sanchez. Intent on being the first people in Gotham City to capture actual video of the Dark Knight in action for a school project, they set out with their video camera to interview people on the streets, witness the evacuation of a city block by police in the middle of a bomb scare, and ultimately encounter Batman in the middle of a back alley break-in where he saves both high schoolers from a menacing group of thugs working for the Joker.

“I always wanted to shoot a Batman story since he is one of my favorite characters, and since I doubt Warner Brothers will ever ask me to direct one for them, I decided to use the resources I have available and do one myself” muses Chicago filmmaker Jerry Vasilatos, who wrote the story and also produced and directed it.

“Everytime I am downtown, I am reminded of the fact that we live in virtual Gotham City” Vasilatos continues. “Shooting an HD movie and emulating the same universe that Christopher Nolan created for “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” allowed us to brand our short film with a certain authenticity and production value that we hope will have people thinking our story really could have taken place between the feature films.”

Assembling a talented group of filmmakers and cast from Chicago's creative community, Vasilatos teamed up with co-producer Zoe Triantafillou and director of photography J. Trevi Albin to produce the fan film on a shoestring budget, relying on the downtown locations and authentic costuming to bring the short story to life.

“This is a complete labor of love” Vasilatos says. “We're not selling it, we're not making any money off it… I just wanted the opportunity to shoot a short Batman story with high production values and share it with other fans in tribute to the character as well as director Christopher Nolan, who I think has finally nailed the type of “Batman” movie fans have always wanted to see on the big screen.”

Vasilatos' crew shot 5 days in using several downtown locations, leading to a climactic alley fight between Batman (being played by Chicago actor Chris Nendick), and the Joker's thugs filmed behind the Fine Arts building off Van Buren.

Vasilatos also created a Myspace page for his two fictional characters Heather and Mikey, where they have been blogging about their efforts to capture video of Batman to visitors. Their Myspace page is at: http://www.myspace.com/darkknightproject. The actual short film was released online July 14th, 2008 at: http://www.darkknightproject.com – 4 days before “The Dark Knight” hit theaters. The website has already had over 2500 viewer in its first week.

Vasilatos, who returned to the Chicago production scene last spring, spent 10 years in Los Angeles working as a producer, director and editor with clients including Universal Home Video, The Reelz Channel and Fox Atomic. His previous producing and directing efforts include the nationally syndicated entertainment news show “Made in Hollywood”, and the Chicago Christmas movie “Solstice” which was originally broadcast on Lifetime Television and is now enjoying a second life on Amazon.com under it's new title “The Night Before Christmas”. He also recently served as an editor on four episodes of the popular History Channel series “Gangland” during it's first and second season.

Excitement Builds for Barrett-Jackson’s Inaugural Las Vegas Collector Car Event

Collector car aficionados from around the world will descend on Las Vegas Oct. 15-18, 2008, when the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company brings their acclaimed auction and lifestyle event to the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino for the first time. Hundreds of desirable collector vehicles will be sold at No Reserve during the auction at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, while SPEED cameras capture live, high-definition coverage.

The clear leader in the collector car arena, Barrett-Jackson has been producing “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Events™” for 37 years in Scottsdale, Ariz., and West Palm Beach, Fla. To date this year, more than 347,000 attendees and millions of SPEED viewers around the world have witnessed 1,672 vehicles being auctioned off for approximately $111 million during these two events combined. The addition of the Las Vegas event represents the third jewel in a triple-crown series that is unmatched in the collector car world.

“Now that we’ve completed two successful auctions in Scottsdale and Palm Beach this year, we’re looking forward to bringing the Barrett-Jackson brand of high octane excitement to Las Vegas,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We’ve always believed that adding a Las Vegas event was a natural step in the evolution of the company and have received an overwhelming response from consigners and bidders who want to participate in our Vegas auction. As with all Barrett-Jackson auctions, every vehicle in Las Vegas will be offered at No Reserve, which will ensure an accurate, honest marketplace for our customers.”

Barrett-Jackson’s No Reserve policy means that each and every vehicle that crosses the auction block will be sold to the highest bidder. Barrett-Jackson’s consignment staff reviews thousands of applications to create a diverse mix of cars that appeal to a wide range of buyers. Applications are available at www.barrett-jackson.com or by calling (480) 421-6694 .

“When consignors want maximum value for their collector cars, they bring them to Barrett-Jackson,” added Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “And bidders know that our selection is second to none and that every vehicle is sold when it crosses the auction block. We’ll continue that tradition in Las Vegas with a lineup that appeals to seasoned collectors, as well as first-time buyers. We encourage people to consign their vehicles as early as possible in order to take advantage of our world-class marketing that attracts the hobby’s top collectors.”

The 2008 Las Vegas event will kick off Wednesday, Oct. 15, with a festive party on the famed Mandalay Bay Beach, featuring live entertainment, libations, and a significant charity component benefiting the Lili Claire Foundation. Lili Claire was established to enhance the lives of children living with Williams Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Autism and other neurogenetic disorders, while providing hope and resources for the families who love them. The foundation will also be showcased during the auction when a 2008 Barrett-Jackson Edition Ford Shelby GT Mustang crosses the block along with appearances from Lili Claire’s celebrity supporters. Only 100 of these high performance muscle cars were built and all proceeds from the sale of the car will be donated to the charity.

The first ever collector vehicle to be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas will cross the block on Thursday, Oct. 16, with auction action continuing through Saturday, Oct. 18. Beyond the auction, the event will encompass a wide range of lifestyle offerings, including an automobilia auction, a vast display from a diverse mix of vendors, and The Garage venue for live music, all taking place at Mandalay Bay.

“Barrett-Jackson represents the gold standard in classic car auctions by providing an exhilarating mix of vintage vehicles, high-energy crowds and thrilling bidding action made possible by their No Reserve policy,” said Mandalay Bay President and COO Bill Hornbuckle. “The energy and excitement of Mandalay Bay and Las Vegas will provide the perfect complement to this highly anticipated event.”
