Reducetarian Summit 2019

On September 27th – 29th, 2019, we will be hosting the third annual Reducetarian Summit. The keynote speech will be delivered by best-selling author Jonathan Safran Foer, author of the forthcoming book, We Are the Weather: Saving the Planet Begins at Breakfast (Farrar, Straus and Giroux: 09/17/2019).

The summit will take place over three days in Washington D.C. at The Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel. The goal of the Reducetarian Summit is to bring together people and perspectives from all corners of the world to explore strategies and tactics for reducing societal consumption of animal products and ending factory farming. In addition to several moderated panels, lightning talks, and fireside chats, a greater emphasis will be placed on skills building workshops and curated networking opportunities. The Reducetarian Summit also features a full expo showcasing delicious plant-based food. The Reducetarian Summit is designed to complement the The Reducetarian Cookbook (Hachette Book Group) The Reducetarian Solution (Penguin Random House).

Pics – PGI workshop on Yoga and Yoga therapy

The first ever PGI workshop on Yoga and Yoga therapy was held in three phases in PGI, Chandigarh. The morning witnessed about 200 individuals who learnt the theory and practice of shatkarmas particularly highly demanding Gaj Karee and Vyagrakarni for which mr Savant had fasted for past 48 hrs. He demonstrated fountain like ejection of water from mouth using yogic practice and power. Later many people learnt Jal Neti and Vaman kriya from him. It was followed by Dr Rajvi Mehta’s demonstration of Iyengar Yoga asanas. This was followed by an excellent discourse on science of consciousness.

The academic session was inaugurated by Dr Jaideep Arya the Chief coordinator of Patanjali and also on Govt’s inter ministerial committee on Yoga education. Dr Anil Bhansali, Prof and Head of Endocrinology talked about importance of integrating ancient techniques with modern medicine for management of metabolic disorders. The plenary talk was given by Dr Sat Bir Khalsa from Harvard Univ, who gave an overview of yoga based research and its superior clinical outcome over excercise benefits and emphasised the self regulatory aspect of yoga which is not incorporated in western philosophy. This philosophical perspective was theorised by Dr Pankaj Srivastava in his talk who spoke about Raj yoga, Karma yoga and Gyan Yoga. Dr Rima Dada from AIIMS elaborated on the evidence based effect of Yoga with her data which showed gene based changes in patients of infertility and Depression

The panel discussion attracted overwhelming participation and all the questions were directed towards urgent need for integration of Yoga with modern medicine for the benefit of patients.

* Sunset Park – Ginko Picnic area – Enter off of Eastern Ave. at the South end of Sunset Park. (Right at the There is a huge parking lot, and our area is at the far end of the parking lot. You will see the picnic area and playground. (Not the area right when you drive in. Go to the end of the lot.)

* Our reserved picnic area is huge! There is plenty of room for yard games and for the kids to run around! The playground, bathrooms, volleyball, and the lake are all very close to our area!

* PLEASE bring a blanket or table/chairs in case we run out of picnic tables! (There are only around 15 tables there.) If you bring an “Easy Up” tent, NO STAKES can be put in the ground. You need to use sand bags etc. )

* There will be security on site.

* Frisbee golf at the park is free, but you will need to bring your own disks, or you can rent them for $2.50 for 3 hrs. Bikes, fishing poles/tackle, tug of war, tennis equipment are available for rent as well! Click HERE for info on fishing licenses! ($9 for a one-day permit. Under 12 do not need a license.)
