Play Yoplait In Your Daily Diet

According to a recent Yoplait Yo-Plus™ survey, nine-out-of-ten women have become committed to their digestive health in the last five years and eight-out-of-ten prefer to regulate their digestion through foods. When considering foods that help aid digestion, women now have the option of Yo-Plus with probiotic cultures which is specifically designed for digestive health.

Eaten regularly, Yo-Plus can naturally regulate the balance of microorganisms in the digestive system, while offering consumers the great taste they can always expect from Yoplait. “Irregular digestion is not only uncomfortable, but affects your everyday life,” said Ryan Stalker, Associate Marketing Manager for Yo-Plus. “Yo-Plus is the only yogurt on the market with Optibalance™, which can help maintain or put digestion back on track. And, with the smooth texture and rich flavors – including our recently introduced flavors Cranberry Raspberry and Blackberry Pomegranate – consumers do not have to sacrifice taste.”

Optibalance™, a unique blend of probiotic cultures and natural fiber, may help consumers regulate their digestive system when eaten daily. When compared side-by-side with Dannon’s Activia, both Yo-Plus and Activia contain active probiotic cultures and both are a good source of calcium (Yo-Plus provides 15 percent of the recommended Daily Value).

However, only Yoplait’s Yo-Plus has the added benefit of dietary fiber, with three grams per 4-ounce serving, which provides additional digestive health benefits, plus vitamins A and D (10 percent of the recommended Daily Value). In addition to the special probiotic culture Bifidobacterium, Yo-Plus also contains the live and active yogurt cultures L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus. With women looking for more natural ways to regulate their digestion through food choices, probiotics continue to gain notoriety. In fact, according to the Yo-Plus survey, nearly two-thirds of women are familiar with probiotics, a strong indication that this health trend is gaining momentum as women become more aware of their options for healthy eating.

“Probiotic cultures are beneficial to health when consumed in adequate amounts,” said Christina Meyer-Jax MS, RD of the General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition. “Consuming probiotics on a regular basis, along with plenty of fiber and fluids, is a natural way to help regulate your GI tract.”

Yo-Plus flavors include: Strawberry, Vanilla, Cherry, Peach, and the recently introduced Cranberry Raspberry and Blackberry Pomegranate. The newest Yo-Plus flavor, Blueberry Acai, will be in grocery stores in January 2009. Yo-Plus is available at a suggested retail price of .79 per 4-ounce cup 4-pack.

Tomato Clamato

The hottest happy hour concotion these days begins with tomato juice.

It's called Clamato.

What is Clamato®ä
Clamato is a high-quality, savory tomato cocktail juice with spices. Its distinctive and invigorating flavor can be enjoyed in so many delicious ways.

Clamato can be used as an ingredient in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink recipes, as well as in the preparation of a variety of dishes that the whole family will enjoy.

History of Clamato
Our history began in California in 1969 when Clamato® juice was created, a unique and tasty cocktail made with tomato juice and a blend of spices that livens the senses.

The farmers were the first ones to appreciate Clamato juice's refreshing flavor when they realized how it made their long, hard days in the sun much more tolerable. Soon, Clamato became more and more well-known throughout the United States and México. Today, it's a popular beverage among Latinos everywhere.

Clamato Caesar and Clamato Picante were created, adding to Clamato's popularity and making this all-time favorite more versatile.

Clamato is now the indispensable ingredient in many beverages, including the traditional Chelada™. It is said that the Chelada made its first appearance in Mexicali at the “Bar los V-tarros” where, the story claims, that it was very common to experiment with drink mixes in an effort to find the perfect antidote for the hot, sultry climate. Witnesses claim that Mr. Camacho, the owner of “Bar los V-tarros,” and his good friend created the now very popular Chelada, a mix of Clamato with beer, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, lime and pepper. The recipe became so popular, it quickly spread from Mexicali … to the world!

Clamato is also the main ingredient in Canada's number one cocktail, the Bloody Caesar®. Walter Chell invented this drink in 1969 for the opening of a restaurant called Marcos. Bloody Caesar is a mixture of Clamato, vodka and spices.

People who use Clamato to prepare food and drinks fondly refer to it as, “My Clamato.” Because of its versatility, Clamato allows you to prepare an almost infinite variety of tasty recipes with your personal flair.

Clamato in combination with TWANG Rimmer Salts is tantalizing to the taste buds.

Farmers Market Looking For Memory Lane

In anticipation of a year-long celebration of its 75th Anniversary starting January, 2009, the Original Farmers Market in Los Angeles is seeking materials from visitors whose experiences at the Market helped make the cherished venue an essential part of Los Angeles.

“We know that tourists and locals alike have great memories of their times at the Market,” says Ilysha Buss, Farmers Market Marketing Manager. “We have our own extensive archive to draw upon as we prepare to celebrate 75 years in Los Angeles, but we know that many of those who cherish the Market have their own memories, stories, photographs and other memorabilia, too. We are asking one and all to share their memories of the Market with us.

“Everyone has their own special sense of the Market. We know that couples have met and courted here, we know that generations of children grew up with the Market as a central part of their lives,” Ms. Buss says. “Regular groups have gathered here for decades, friendships have formed and grown and countless families have turned the Market into their second living room. These are the stories and photos we're asking our customers to share and, in return, we'll share as many memories as we can with those who celebrate with us.”

The memories submitted to the Market will become part of a year-long 75th Anniversary celebration which begins in January, 2009. In addition to Memory Boards which will be displayed at several locations in Farmers Market, Market Memories submitted by the public will also be included in a special 75th Anniversary section of the Farmers Market website, http://www.farmersmarketla.com/.

Photographs, recollections, favorite Market stories and other memories of the Market, no more than 250 words each, can be sent to Marketing / Market Memories at 6333 West Third Street, Los Angeles, CA 90036 or submitted to memories@farmersmarketla.com. The Farmers Market Office, located at the top of the staircase just inside Gate One at the Market, will also be accepting submissions.

Contributors are encouraged to make copies of photographs or other unique items they submit since submissions to the Market Memories campaign cannot be returned.

Updates on the Market's 75th Anniversary celebration will be posted at farmersmarketla.com on a regular basis throughout the year-long tribute.

Ralph Lauren's New Pick

Ralph Lauren Fragrances has announced that French model and actress Laetitia Casta will be the face of Notorious, Ralph Lauren's newest women's fragrance. Notorious debuts in the U.S. this month with a print campaign starring Casta, photographed by renowned photographer Michael Thompson, plus a Notorious commercial film, directed by renowned Hong Kong-based filmmaker Wong Kar-wai.

Casta was hand-selected to embody the sexy, intriguing Notorious woman, whose image was inspired by the iconic actresses of the golden era of Hollywood film.

"Laetitia's glamour, daring and powerful femininity make her the perfect face for this seductive fragrance," says Guillaume de Lesquen, President, Worldwide, Ralph Lauren Fragrances. "She is classically beautiful, but lives her life in a completely modern way. Laetitia is Notorious."

Laetitia, whose first name means joy in Latin, is Corsican and Italian on her father's side, and spent her childhood in Normandy. When she was 15 years old, she was discovered on a beach in Corsica by a talent scout. Laetitia persuaded her parents to move to Paris, where her success was almost instantaneous. In barely ten months, a new star was born on the pages of magazines and in the hearts of the French people. Laetitia has worked with such famed photographers as Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh, Ellen von Unwerth, Gilles Bensimon and the late Herb Ritts. She has graced the covers of over 100 fashion magazines around the world.

Laetitia is also an accomplished actress. She made her feature film debut in Asterix et Obelix contre Cesar (1999), the most expensive French film ever made and a smash hit in Europe. She then turned to art house films, such as Les Ames Fortes by Raoul Ruiz. Her film career continued to flourish with Errance, by Damien Odoul, Le Grand Appartement, by Pascal Thomas, and La Jeune Fille et les Loups, a film by Gilles Legrand. Her newest movie, Nee en 68, will be released on television and has won the Golden Swann of the Cabourg Film Festival in France. Her new play, Elle t'attend, written and directed by Florian Zeller, opens this month at the Theatre Madeleine in Paris. After the play closes, Casta is slated to film a movie about the life of Serge Gainsbourg.

Her international success has made Laetitia a beloved daughter of France, and it was natural for the Association of the Mayors of France to choose her as the new Marianne in 2000, one of France's highest honors.

Laetitia is the mother of two children, Sahteene and Orlando, and she and her family live in Paris.

Local Chef Kicks Off Inaugural Balls Frenzy

Guests visiting the Nation's Capital will be able to dine in a style befitting the newly elected President of the United States even if not invited to the official Inauguration luncheon hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies in Statuary Hall at the U.S. Capitol (JCCIC). Chef Arnel Esposo of Palette restaurant in the Loews Madison Hotel will offer his version of official Inauguration luncheon fare with a three-course prix-fixe menu available at both lunch and dinner from January 10 – 25, 2009.

The foods offered at the luncheons are a reflection of the times and individual tastes. Diners will be presented with a choice of an appetizer, entree and dessert served at previous official Inauguration luncheons from every President since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957 to George W. Bush in 2005, excluding Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. President Carter asked that the Inaugural luncheon be canceled and the JCCIC obliged and when President Ford was appointed President on October 12, 1973 he did not think the times called for a celebratory luncheon.

“The foods offered at the luncheons are a reflection of the times and individual tastes,” said Chef Arnel Esposo of Washington, D.C.'s Palette restaurant. “It is interesting to see how the food went from simple to those with more complex flavorings and preparations. I think our guests in Palette will enjoy dining like the President.”

For reservations in Palette during Inauguration guests should call (202) 587-2700. The price is exclusive of tax, gratuity and beverages.

Chef Esposo's special menu of past Inaugural luncheons served in Statuary Hall includes his interpretation of four appetizers, four entrees and four desserts. On the menu each dish will be attributed to a President and the year he was inaugurated.

For appetizers, guests will choose from: cream of tomato soup with crushed popcorn, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1961; shrimp cocktail, Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1957 and Richard Milhous Nixon, 1973; scalloped crab and lobster, President George Walker Bush, 2005; or California garden salad, President Ronald W. Reagan, 1981.

Entrées range from chicken to beef to fish. Included on the menu will be Maine lobster Newburg, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1957; Texas heart of filet mignon with bercy sauce, President Lyndon Baines Johnson, 1965 and Richard Milhous Nixon, 1969; rosemary chicken with pecan rice, ginger carrots and broccoli, President William Jefferson Clinton, 1993; and grilled salmon with sorrel sauce, President William Jefferson Clinton, 1997.

Guests will want to leave room for dessert because the offerings are as varied as the President's views: cold praline soufflé with raspberry sauce, President Ronald W. Reagan, 1985; apple-cranberry brown Betty, President William Jefferson Clinton, 1993; brandied pear crisp and vanilla ice cream, President George Herbert Walker Bush, 1989; or toffee pudding with caramel sauce, President George Walker Bush, 2001.

After the newly elected President has taken the oath of office on January 20, 2009, he will be escorted to Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol for the traditional Inauguration luncheon hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

The luncheon features cuisine reflecting the home states of the new President and Vice President, as well as the theme of the Inauguration, and program that includes speeches, gifts presentations and toasts to the new administration. While the lunch tradition dates to 1897, when the Senate Committee on Arrangements gave a luncheon for President McKinley, it did not take its current form until 1953 for President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Palette, under the command of Chef and Sgt. Arnel Esposo (of the Maryland National Guard 58th Combat Brigade) combines comfortable American cuisine and contemporary artwork to create a restaurant-as-gallery setting,. Sleekly modern, Palette draws upon the country's regional traditions, presenting a singular culinary vision. The unique marriage of cuisine and artwork will please the most refined taste. Palette serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.

All That Jazz

Launched in 2006 by Tamara Saretsky and Delicia Soliman, TeaZazz Sparkling Tea is the perfect combination of “better-for-you” tea with the sparkling fun of soda offering a refreshing alternative to the conventional soft drink. In a market overwhelmed by water and energy drinks, they conceived the idea of adding carbonation to one of the hottest growing beverages available today; Tea.

They created an exhilarating beverage that is not only a healthier alternative to soda, but a new way for tea drinkers to enjoy their tea. TeaZazz offers the best of both worlds—a hybrid drink, that bridges the gap between the “fun” of soft drinks and the “good for you” elements of tea.

TeaZazz is available in four delicious varieties: Original, Green Tea Lemon, Green Tea Mint and Peach. The suggested retail price for a 20 oz. bottle of TeaZazz is $1.69. TeaZazz also makes a great cocktail mixer for any event! For more information and TeaZazz cocktail recipes, please go to www.drinkteazazz.com.

Another Writer Relays Experience of Working with Examiner.com

Gabe Goldberg, a well-known and well-established writer was also contacted by Examiner.com to become a columnist and this is what he had to say:

“Current hot button of mine! I was solicited by a recruiter to become a
“National Examiner”, write for their nationwide Web site, etc. Pay for
clicks, as you noted, but would be writing in an area of interest with
possibility of increased pay rate.

But there were several red flags, including the background check (for
which they had at least an arguable justification, that they'd be widely
promoting contributors, didn't want any nasty surprises). The reddest
flag was that during the recruiting/vetting process — during which I
spoke to at least five people of increasing seniority in the
organization — nobody would show me the contract under which I'd work.
That's only available after the whole startup process, when you're ready
to post your first item, when you can read it and click OK. I kept
telling them to show me the contract to avoid wasting everyone's time.

So I write two short posts, get ready, log on, see the agreement — as
usual, a LONG document visible through a tiny window. I copy/print/read
the document. Bzzzt. It explicitly notes that no payments will be made;
that if Examiner decides to establish a paying relationship, that will
require a separate agreement. Talk to my contact there — who's shocked
at the disconnect between promises and the contract. She does some
research, says that a new contract — with payment details — is in the
works.

The agreement offered is NOT something thrown together — it's a highly
lawyered piece of writing. So it's hard to imagine that the “no payment”
clause is accidental or that management isn't aware of the language.
It's been a couple weeks and — surprise — there's been no revised
contract sent. So it's hard not to believe that the verbal promises
aren't deliberate deception, aided by the no-advance-review-of-contract
policy. So they wasted a lot of their and my time, and a bunch of their
money on preparation for my work.

I know at least one person who's writing for them, who accepted the
document without reading it, was promised payments and hasn't received
any. I suspect that more than a few people did this.

All in all, amazing.”

Examiner.com Does Criminal Background Check of Bloggers!

A reader, Star Lawrence, who belongs to a local writers group, reports:

“I got a telephone call from Examiner.com about their blogging work–it wasn’t too switft, blog for clicks sort of. Since I could change my daily health item in about a second and post it, I thought, well, maybe…Then they sent the forms–they wanted to do a criminal background check on writers. It said not a credit check, but there was info on the Fair Credit Reporting Act, so I was dubious on that count, too. We should be checking THEIR criminal records, some of these so-called employers. No way!”

_______________________________________

Here is a copy of the e-mail Examiner sent to Star in an effort to recruit her:

Hi Star, Thanks for the phone chat, and first of all, congratulations on being approved to be an Examiner!

My name is George Shirk, a regional content editor at Examiner.com. I work with Molly Gilford, the program manager. Together, we’re in charge of getting you all set up with your page and profile. You may have already received an email with the instructions below, but we wanted to reach out to say hi, and welcome you to the team as well.

If you haven’t already done the following, please email the material listed below directly to Molly so she can be sure it gets into the right hands. About the background check: Examiner.com is doing a background check on all Examiners in order to make sure no one writing on the site might use the site for criminal activity.

This is not a check on credit, employment or anything other than criminal stuff. It is attached.

About compensation: We pay .50 per 1,000 page views. We do this through PayPal and you get paid when you hit the minimum threshold. This site is scaled to get very big, so we expect traffic to be excellent as we grow. Having said that, we’d like you to do two things to get you started:

1. Smile for the camera! If you;ve taken a look at the Examiners on the site, you’ll see that they all have a photo of themselves on their page. Please make sure it is horizontal/ landscape as opposed to portrait. If you send a close up which is vertical, when we go to crop, we end up having to take off some of the top of your head, or your chin (so that’s why we specify wider than it is tall. Just so you know, it ends up being 90 pixels wide by 75 pixels tall. We will resize the photo for you, just please send it as an attachment and not embedded in the email.

2. We also would like to have a bio of 35 words or less (right in the body of the email is preferable, as opposed to an attachment, but either will work). This bio will be placed next to your picture and will tell readers who you are and what you talk about on your page.

There’s really no reason to tell people where you went to school or your whole life story, a simple statement of your experience and your topic will work fine, but do make sure to give readers a sense that you are credible. Here are examples of a bad bio and the same bio done the right way:

a. John Johnson attended The University of Texas at Austin from 1982-1986 and got a BA in Fine Arts. He went on to get his Masters in Film from NYU in 1989. He has loved film since he was a child when he first saw ‘Gone With The Wind’ on NBC over Thanksgiving. Now, he has a successful film studio and makes a living critiquing films for publications like The New York Times, US Weekly, and Newsweek. Come along with John as he takes you on a ride through the American cinematic landscape.

b. John Johnson loved film from on early age, so much so that he got a Masters degree in the topic. Now, he works in the film industry and writes reviews for major publications. When it comes to movies, John’s your go-to guy. Also attached is a background form that we use to check criminal background (make sure you check “no” to any other questions on the form. The form goes directly to Molly, so don’t worry about safety in sending it. She is very careful and keeps them locked away at all times. You can print it out, fill it in, sign it and then either scan it and email it to her at mgilford@examiner.com, or if you prefer, you can fax it to 303-299-1505.

The fax comes directly to her desk, so there is no need for a cover sheet. If you have already sent it, please ignore this portion of the email.

Again, congratulations! We are all very excited to have you as a new examiner and we’re eager to get you up and running as soon as possible. As soon as we can get you up and live on the site, the better. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Molly.

Her email address is mgilford@examiner.com, and my own contact information is below.
