Pics – Group for the East End

Chef Noah Schwartz, Roman Roth and DJ Mad MarjOn Saturday, June 27, 2015 over 250 guests came out to support the Group for the East End’s Where the Wild Things… benefit at the breathtaking Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack, NY.

The Group, joined by co-chairs Katherine & Marco Birch, Kristen & Clark Briner, Carolyn & Greg Hoogkamp, Genevieve & Robert Lynch, Deni & Bill McChesney and Kim White & Kurt Wolfgruber, raised $500,000 to help protect endangered wildlife on the East End.

Guests enjoyed delicious locally inspired fare prepared by award-winning chef Noah Schwartz of Noah’s and delectable wines from Wölffer, created by winemaker and partner, Roman Roth. At the helm of the live auction, was auctioneer Mariana Gantus, who dazzled the audience with seven priceless East End experiences. Following the exciting live auction, guests danced the night away to tunes by powerhouse DJ Mad Marj.

Funds raised from the event will help generate awareness and protect the region’s vanishing wildlife. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) released a report in December stating there are 185 species that will be locally extinct in ten years unless urgent action is taken. Most – including box turtles, short-eared owls, bay scallops and hard clams – are on the East End.

“We have a choice – protect the nature of this very special place or allow it to be ruined. We are learning from the declining wildlife species that we need to be better stewards of the land, the water – the entire East End,” stated Katherine Birch, Benefit Co-Chair.

For more than 43 years, Group for the East End has served as eastern Long Island’s full-time professional advocate for conservation. The Group is widely recognized and respected for its work to protect the East End environment by advancing realistic solutions to complex environmental problems, mobilizing informed citizens, educating future leaders, and challenging irresponsible
development that impacts our quality of life and community character.

Awesome Fest is an adult twist to the classic outdoor movie viewing experience. The festival showcases a lineup of cutting-edge independent film premieres at Liberty Lands in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. “With this program, it was important for me to provide an adult alternative to the current outdoor film experience in Philadelphia”, said Awesome Fest founder & artistic director Josh Goldbloom. “I’ve always taken pride in showcasing the festival’s titles in unique & exciting ways, and I’m as thrilled as ever to share these remarkable (and often bloody) films, at one of the coolest outdoor venues in town.”

June 26th CALL ME LUCKY (Philadelphia Premiere) Directed by Bobcat Goldthwait

Barry Crimmins is pissed. His hellfire brand of comedy has rained verbal lightning bolts on American audiences and politicians for decades, yet you’ve probably never heard of him. No animals were harmed in the making of this movie.70 members of the cast & crew were. Nearly fifty legendary chefs gathered on Monday, June 8, 2015 for a remarkable milestone –

Cheftopia: The 30th Annual Chefs’ Tribute to Citymeals-on-Wheels

For this landmark anniversary, Citymeals honored the event’s founding chefs Larry Forgione and Jonathan Waxman who, 30 years ago, conceptualized the inaugural Chefs’ Tribute event as a birthday celebration for chef and Citymeals Co-Founder James Beard. Tonight, chefs celebrated the past while looking to the future as they created dishes inspired by tomorrow’s food trends at tasting stations throughout the Rockefeller Center Plaza. The highly anticipated event raised more than $880,000 to support the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals, hand-delivered to homebound elderly New Yorkers.

Rockefeller Center was transformed into a culinary paradise by renowned architect and Citymeals Board Member David Rockwell. More than 1,200 business leaders, gourmet enthusiasts, food industry trendsetters, socialites, young professionals, chefs and restaurateurs were in attendance for live music, dancing and spectacular cuisine.

Nick Valenti, CEO of Patina Restaurant Group, was the evening’s Grand Host. The event was chaired by Ninah & Michael Lynne; Laura & John Pomerantz; Randi & Dennis Riese; and Lizzie & Jonathan Tisch. With the help of beverage chair Audrey Saunders (Owner, The Pegu Club) and wine chair Daniel Johnnes (Wine Director, The Dinex Group), the event also featured signature cocktails from top spirit sponsors and stellar wines from notable wineries.

Beth Shapiro, Executive Director of Citymeals-on-Wheels, explained, “When this event was conceived by Chefs Forgione and Waxman, I’m not sure anyone thought we would be standing here three decades later – having raised more than $19,480,000. This annual event is a tribute to James Beard as well as the lifeline he and Co-Founder & Board Chair Gael Greene created for hundreds of thousands of homebound elderly throughout the city. But it’s also a testament to the culinary community and the chefs who have committed themselves to Citymeals over the years. Thank you to all of the chefs here tonight and all those who have cooked at this event in the past and made our most vulnerable neighbors a priority. Tonight, we celebrate you.”

Special guests in attendance included Greene; Alice Waters; Drew Nieporent; Aliyyah Baylor; Aaron & Stephanie Goldman; Alison Lohrfink Zimmel; Roxann & Roger Taylor; Randy & Jay Fishman; Sara Gore; John Harper; Sandy & Cori Goldfarb; and Marcia & Myron Stein.
