Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida's 13th Annual Stories of Light.

Description:

Make-A-Wish of Central and Northern Florida's 13th Annual Stories of Light holiday campaign will take place between November 24th and December 31st. The campaign is our signature media-awareness fundrasier where we team up with local media to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Our goal is to raise $ 220,000 to grant a total of 31 wishes! We are partnering with WESH 2 News and for the first time with Mix 105.1 FM and Wachovia Bank.

Beginning November 24th, the central Florida community will be encouraged to help fund a child's wish by making a donation at their lovcal Wachovia Bank, going online to www.wishcentral.org, or calling 407-622-4673. During the month of December, WESH 2 News and Mix 105.1 will share with the community inspiring stories of courageous wish children. Tune in to WESH 2 News each Friday to watch Jim Payne share a heartfelt story of a child who was recently granted his or her wish.

The week of December 15, Mix 105.1 FM's Scott and Erica Morning Show will air a wish story each morning, leading up to an all day 'request-a-thon' on Friday, December 19th. From 7 am-7pm, listeners will have the opportunity to request any song they like and hear it on the radio by making a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida.

This delightful Conservatory exhibition celebrates the city of San Francisco as model G-gauge trains wend their way through a lush landscape of dwarf plants and flowers and steam past twelve of the city's landmark buildings. From City Hall to the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco's most famous places provide a magical, exciting setting for this special holiday attraction that will captivate young and old alike. Added attractions include a vintage train seating area, the "Donor Depot", costumed conductors and interpretive materials about the development of San Francisco and its railways including a youth-created DVD about James Lick, the Bay Area tycoon who brought the Conservatory to California.

HISTORY AND MEDIA

The Conservatory of Flowers first opened to the public in 1879. Among the original twenty-seven kit purchasers were two of San Francisco's Big Four transcendental railroad developers, Leland Stanford and Charles Crocker. In 1883 Stanford began running a steam train along the street now named Lincoln Way from Stanyan to Ocean beach.

The venerable Conservatory of Flowers was a distinctive landmark and popular attraction. A severe wind storm caused devastating damage to the Conservatory in 1995. A grass roots effort to Save the Conservatory resulted in a $25 million renovation with the Conservatory officially reopening in September 2003. The Conservatory has received numerous local, state and national awards.
