Passion and Spirit, The Argentine Way!
On Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 6pm to 9pm, “An Argentine Affair,” presented by Trapiche and Michel Torino Wines, will take place outdoors at Water Taxi Beach Long Island City. Argentine chefs and restaurateurs from the New York metro area will unite for this first-of-its-kind event to showcase their versions of traditional foods, as well as their meat-grilling skills, while consumers are expected to turn out in droves to see how a fiesta’s really done—the Latin way!
Tickets will be available for purchase at AnArgentineAffair.com for $35* ($60 for two) and will allow participants a chance to explore the tastes of Argentina, without ever leaving the city. The event’s dishes will be paired with Trapiche wines from Mendoza and Michel Torino of Cafayate, imported by Frederick Wildman & Sons. A portion of ticket proceeds will go to Action Against Hunger, a global humanitarian organization committed to eliminating world hunger, and the Wine Course at the Department of Hospitality Management at New York City College of Technology.
“Malbec wines (and Argentina) are so hot now,” offers Francine Kowalsky, Wildman’s Argentine wine Brand Manager, “that we thought it very appropriate to bring both components into one event. Wine and food is such a dominant aspect of everyday Argentine life—along with soccer and tango, that is!—that it was inevitable to promote one without the other.”
Throughout the evening, not only will beef connoisseurs slather the famous chimichurri sauce on masterfully grilled steaks and “choripan” (Argentine-style sausage on baguette-type bread), they will also be able to sample tasting portions of other traditional Argentine delicacies such as meat empanadas, tea sandwiches or sandwiches de Miga (a specialty at every Argentine birthday celebration!), and much more! Restaurants slated to participate include Boca Juniors Steakhouse, Cones Inc., Dulce De Leche Bakery, La Esquina Criolla, and Pampas Argentinas. And, if attendees don’t find themselves needing a chorizo-induced siesta, a Tango troupe will engage passionate Argentine lovers in dancing (or build on their skills with a lesson), while budding pros will be happy to join soccer matches by the beach.
“An Argentine Affair” is sponsored by Frederick Wildman and Sons, importers of Trapiche and Michel Torino Wines; Tango Art, Weber, Balthazar, Action Against Hunger and New York City College of Technology.
